AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men’s tennis standout Salvador Bandeira has been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 19, 2019.
Bandeira, a redshirt-freshman from Caparica, Portugal, guided the Pacers to their first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 with wins over No. 6 Wingate.
The match was began on Sunday, May 12, but all of the singles matches wrapped up on Monday, May 13.
Bandeira, playing at No. 2 singles, knotted the overall match at 2-2 with his resounding victory. He posted a win by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
The victory gave USC Aiken momentum as No. 4 Vicente Andrades and No. 3 Antonio Sabugueiro finished moments later, securing the 4-1 win over the Bulldogs for the NCAA Southeast Region Championship.
