University of South Carolina Aiken Athletics

New Softball Field

Started in 1987, Pacer softball has a strong history with nearly 300 student-athletes participating during their time on campus. Alumni achievements include four All-American selections, 40 all-conference selections, 16 All-Region selections and two retired jerseys. In 2020, USC Aiken hired current coach Jaclin Poole, who has started a resurgence of competitive success. Last season, the team set the school record for home runs with 42, marking the second straight year it has shattered this mark. The team knocked off No. 2 North Georgia in the first game of the PBC Tournament a season ago and earned a berth in the semifinals.

Now, USC Aiken wants to give our softball players a new home with the construction of a $2.1 million facility that will feature a 47,000-square-foot turf field, restrooms and press box. The school hopes to add a team building, lights, grandstand, and dugout restrooms.

The new softball field represents the first phase of a concerted effort by the university to centralize all its athletics facilities on its west campus, as outlined in our Master Plan. Construction on the soccer field, the project’s second phase, is expected to start in 2025. With this move, more than 20,000 vehicles will see the new softball field each day and thousands of students and community members will see the name through attending events at USC Aiken’s sports complex.

  • Softball and men’s and women’s soccer games have averaged a total annual attendance of approximately 7,500 to 10,000 fans.
  • Increased growth forecast is 12,000 to 15,000 fans a year on average for softball and men’s and women’s soccer teams with the construction of these new fields.
  • The Convocation Center hosts more than 100,000 people annually at more than 40 athletic events and dozens of state and local celebrations.
  • The Roberto Hernandez Baseball Stadium hosts more than 20,000 people at USC Aiken baseball games and community events.
  • It is anticipated that the new softball field can host youth camps, showcases, high school all-star games, event rentals and college and high school tournaments.
