AIKEN, S.C. – The Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Week is baseball standout Blayne Newman.

Newman, a native of Richmond Hill, Ga., put forth a pair of solid performances on the week.

Against No. 18 Francis Marion, Newman got the start and worked 2.1 innings in the mid-week clash. He struck out five and gave up one run on three hits.

In the weekend opener against Augusta, Newman tossed seven innings and gave up just one run on two hits. He struck out eight batters and did not walk anyone.

For the week, Newman tallied 13 strikeouts against just one walk and gave up two earned runs in 9.1 innings of work.
