AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken softball standout Payton Baker as been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 20, 2022.

Baker, a freshman from Denver, N.C., helped the Pacers register a mark they had not reached in a decade.

The left-handed hurler went 1-1 on the week in three appearances. She tossed a pair of complete games, including a 6-2 win at Young Harris on Saturday.

The complete-game victory against the Mountain Lions marked the team's fourth straight PBC win on the road – something the program had not done since March 25-28, 2012. 

Baker struck out 11 batters on the week. In her loss, she gave up just one run in the first inning. 

The Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
