AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken softball standout
Caroline Cockrell has been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 2, 2020.
Cockrell, a junior from North Augusta, S.C., guided the Pacers to a 2-0 week after two stellar performances in the circle.
She got the starting nod for the season opener and did not disappoint. Cockrell struck out 12 batters and gave up just one hit in the 9-0, six-inning shutout.
Cockrell came in as a reliever in the top of the first inning of game two and promptly worked 6.1 frames and struck out eight more batters while giving up just one hit in the 4-3 victory.
For the day, she struck out 20 batters, had two assists and a putout and gave up just two walks en route to earning a pair of victories.
