Hot Shooting Pacers Roll Past Braves

Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken shot 60 percent in the first half and built a 13-point halftime lead on its way to an 80-68 win over UNC Pembroke tonight (Wednesday) at "The Courthouse" in Aiken, S.C. Josh Geyer led four Pacers (6-10, 2-4 PBC) in double figures. Rollie Boone came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points for the Braves (2-15, 0-7 PBC).

After Jarrell Hunter's three-pointer gave UNC Pembroke an early five-point lead, 9-4, with 18:11 to go in the first half, USC Aiken knocked down four three-pointers and used a 15-2 run to take control of the game. Richard Blocker hit two treys and Josh Poston and Josh Geyer hit one each. Geyer's triple capped the run and put the Pacers in front by eight, 19-11, with 14:55 remaining before intermission.

Three straight free throws by Boone cut it to five, 21-16, at the 13:03 mark. Marcus Robinson keyed another USCA run by scoring five of seven unanswered Pacer points. Poston's jumper made it 32-20 with 9:21 left in the first half. Robinson scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the first half. The junior finished with 15 points on seven-of-nine shooting and nine boards.

Blocker's lay-up extended the lead to 15 points for USC Aiken with just over two minutes to go before the break. Boone's bucket with 1:32 to go capped the first half scoring and sent the Braves to the locker room trailing by 13, 49-36.

The Pacers connected on 21-of-35 shot attempts in the first 20 minutes of play for 60 percent. UNC Pembroke made 12-of-33 for 36.4 percent.

UNCP scored the first seven points of the second half and trailed by just six with 18:13 left in the game after Boone connected on a lay-up and a free throw to make it 49-43. Boone scored 17 of his game-high 22 in the second half. He finished six-of-10 from the field and nine-of-10 from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds.

Geyer put USCA back in front by double-digits, 55-45, with 16:07 to go, and the Pacers would maintain a double-digit advantage for all but 16 seconds of the remainder of the game.

Geyer added six rebounds, three assists and four blocks to his 16 points. Blocker finished with 15 points and six assists. Poston scored 13 and dished out six assists as well.

Anthony Crank scored 13 points in the first half for the Braves but added just one to that total in the second half to finish with 14 points.

USC Aiken committed 29 turnovers when the two teams played earlier this month. Tonight the Pacers finished with 30 turnovers. UNCP made 24 miscues. USCA out-rebounded the Braves 42-34.

Pembroke hit on 41.2 percent (seven-of-17) from beyond the three-point line but finished 23-of-61 from the field for 37.7 percent. USC Aiken shot over 50 percent for the third time this season, going 30-of-55 for 54.5 percent.

The Pacers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Clayton College & State University in Morrow, Ga. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
