AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken had many thrilling moments throughout the action-packed 2023-2024 season. Whether it was on the diamond, on the court, on the course, on the links or on the pitch, PacerSports.com is going to relive some of those unforgettable highlights that defines the Pacers' spirit a sport at a time.
In his first year at the helm of the program, head coach
Adam Kleman's team turned in a truly memorable moment in the home-opening match.
On Sept. 6, 2023, USC Aiken squared off against region foe Southern Wesleyan. With the contest scoreless for the first 34 minutes of play,
Brooke Salerno opened the scoring off a rebound at the 34:13 mark for what proved to be the match-winning goal. However, the goal also opened the floodgates.
Over the next three minutes,
Avery List and
Riley Stallings each found the back of the net for goals. Still at 3-0 five minutes into the second period,
Mackenzie Cochrane blasted home a shot for a 4-0 advantage.
Reagan Leonard answered the call in the 55
th minute for a 5-0 lead.
In the 63
rd minute, newcomer
Carmen Jones blasted home her first score while senior
Teagan Kersey closed the scoring in the 82
nd minute. Overall, seven student-athletes found the back of the net in the 7-0 win while three others registered points off assists.
USC Aiken controlled the match – and that was indicative from the 28-5 shot totals.
It marked the second-most goals scored by the Pacers in front of their home fans since 2003. In 2003, USC Aiken bested Mount Olive on Sept. 17 by a 7-0 score. The only other home match that the Pacers recorded more goals was against a short-handed Allen team (10-0).
The win over Southern Wesleyan marked Kleman's first as a head coach.
