Women's Basketball | May 27, 2024

AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken had many thrilling moments throughout the action-packed 2023-2024 season. Whether it was on the diamond, on the court, on the course, on the links or on the pitch, PacerSports.com is going to relive some of those unforgettable highlights that defines the Pacers' spirit a sport at a time.

In the season opener, USC Aiken squared off against region foe Lenoir-Rhyne at the PBC/SAC Challenge in Jefferson City, Tenn., which was hosted by Carson-Newman. The Bears are always a formidable opponent and head coach Mark Miler's young team bested the Bears with a 74-70 overtime victory.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak to L-R. Ironically enough, the last victory for USC Aiken in the series occurred five years and one day since the last win, which also happened at the PBC/SAC Challenge in Jefferson City, Tenn. (an 86-69 victory for USC Aiken). The win also gave the Pacers a 10-4 edge in the all-time series.

In the back-and-forth affair, the Pacers took an early 19-17 lead entering the second quarter of play. During the second 10 minutes of action, Miller's squad embarked on an 8-0 run for a 27-19 lead. All four baskets during the spurt came from different student-athletes, helping the designated visitors take a 38-27 lead into the break.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Pacers maintained an 11-point edge, but the Bears held a 66-64 lead with 35 seconds to go. Hailey Unger knotted the game with 26 seconds to play and the Pacers forced a missed jumper at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

After L-R took an early 68-66 lead, Annalise Malone scored four straight points and Jentri Worley hit a jumper for a six-point edge. Up by two with 16 ticks remaining, Worley was fouled and sealed the victory with a pair of charity tosses for the four-point victory.
