Ohlwein Nets Goal In Tie With USC Beaufort

AIKEN, S.C. - The USCA women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with USC Beaufort Saturday evening in the home finale.

The Pacers are now 4-9-2 on the season, including 2-5-1 against conference foes.

Head coach Adam Kleman's team turned away the Sand Sharks in the third minute of action. In the 17th mute, Greta Ohlwein's first attempt sailed wide of the frame. After another save by Savannah Yerger, Ohlwein's shot on goal was stopped by the keeper at the 31:31 mark.

Late in the first half, USCA had a breakaway. USCB was whistled for a foul in the box and Ohlwein floated the penalty kick past the keeper for the 1-0 edge at the break.

Kleman's squad nearly made it 2-0 at the 58:25 mark. After getting the ball in the box, Ohlwein had a shot from 10 yards out. Her attempt drilled the post, narrowly missing her second score of the evening.

The defense continued to play stellar as the Sand Sharks had multiple opportunities within a five-minute span. Yerger made a solid save while the back line stood stout and did not allow good chances off corner kicks. With just under 20 minutes remaining, Ruby Scott chipped a pass to Ohlwein down the right side of the pitch. Ohlwein took a couple of dribbles and blasted a shot on goal, but the keeper managed to record the save.

At the 85:56 mark, USCA was whistled for a foul in the box. The Sand Sharks took the ensuing penalty kick and Yerger stopped it momentarily, but the ball found the back of the net, tying the score at 1-1.

The Pacers had a tremendous opportunity with 1:11 remaining. Emma Gause ran down a long pass at the top of the box and tried to shoot it past an oncoming keeper, but the Sand Sharks managed to come up with the save.

For the match, USCA totaled nine shots, including five on goal. Yerger played all 90 minutes between the pipes and had 10 saves.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at Coker at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
