Blue Hose Avenge Loss

Box Score CLINTON, S.C.--Just over three weeks since the Lady Pacers opened their 2004 home season with a decisive 3-0 win over Presbyterian College, the Blue Hose returned the favor on Tuesday night. PC (7-5) knocked off the Lady Pacers (10-4) in three games at the Templeton Center with scores of 30-28, 30-26, and 30-23.

Jenny Lloyd led the Lady Pacers with 17 kills, 10 digs, one ace, and one block for a match-high 18.5 points. Freshman Mandy Gerolstein added six kills, five aces, and three blocks for 13.0 points while Veronica Seidle chipped in eight kills, two aces, and 10 digs for 10.0 points.

As a team, USCA notched 14 service aces to just six errors while PC was flipped in that category with two aces to 11 service errors. The Lady Pacers, however, hit just .133 compared to .339 for the Blue Hose.

Erin Friday led the way for PC with 14 kills, two blocks, and six digs. She hit .481 totaling 16.0 points. Lauren Mason and Donja Bobbitt chipped in nine kills each. As a team, Presbyterian registered 13.0 total team blocks.

In game one, the score was tied seven times before a pair of Lloyd kills book ended two of Gerolstein's five aces to cap a 4-0 Lady Pacer run and knot the game up at 17-17. The score would be tied again at every point level from 21-21 to 28-28. However Mason's kill with a 29-28 lead gave a nip-and-tuck game one to PC.

Game two was a mirror image of game one with close early play and another tie game at 17-17. This time, USCA took command with a 5-1 run, but the Blue Hose reeled off seven of the next eight points to surge ahead 25-23 and pull away to the 30-26 win.

In the final game, play was again tight early with the two teams coming to rest at 15-15. A 6-1 run gave the Blue Hose momentum and breathing room at 21-16. USCA pulled within 22-20, but a 6-1 counter run decided the game as PC won 30-23.

USC Aiken will open Peach Belt Conference play this weekend at USC Upstate (formerly USC Spartanburg) on Friday at 7:00 PM and then travel to Greenwood, S.C. on Saturday to take on Lander at 3:00 PM.
