AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Luke Westerberg has been named the Willie Jewell’s USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 21, 2017.

Westerberg, a senior from Trenton, N.J., had a stellar NCAA Southeast Regional.

The utility player posted a .385 batting average while starting all three games. He slugged .692 and tallied a .429 on-base percentage.

Westerberg’s biggest hit of the tournament came in the opener against Georgia College. With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, he pounded a pitch back up the middle for the game-winning RBI in the 6-5 contest.

For the tournament, he led the Pacers with five hits, had one of the two homers and posted a team-high three RBI. Westerberg was solid in the field, recording 17 putouts and two assists without making an error.
