AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken men’s tennis standout Mathias Degardin has been named the Willie Jewell's USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 5, 2017.

Degardin, a native of Bourgoin-Jallieu, guided the No. 39 Pacers to a 1-1 week.

His performance on the week was outstanding. Between singles and doubles action, Degardin went 3-1 with a victory over a top-10 foe and a top-20 tandem.

Against North Georgia, Degardin teamed up with Julien Tan to knock off the No. 18 team in the nation by a score of 8-5. In singles action, he posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over the No. 7 competitor in Division II.

In the victory over Young Harris, Degardin throttled his opposition at the No. 1 singles position by a 6-3, 6-0 score.

The Willie Jewell's USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
