AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standout Rebecca Martinez has been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7, 2018.
Martinez is a 5-5 libero from Wellington, Fla.
She guided the Pacers to a 2-1 week with wins over Albany State and Georgia College.
For the week, Martinez upped her NCAA-leading average for digs per set to 8.81 a frame after accounting for nine per set.
She played in just the first stanza against Albany State, totaling eight digs. In the road win at Georgia College, Martinez totaled a match-high 35 digs in the four-set win, which marked the fifth most in school history. At Augusta, Martinez posted a match-best 29 digs, which is the seventh most in school history.
In addition to leading the NCAA in digs per set, Martinez is in the top 10 for total digs with 467. She also moved into USC Aiken’s single-season top-10 list for digs last week.
