Pineiro's Hat Trick Leads Pacers to Dominating 8-1 Victory Over Coker

Box Score

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Freshman Jenny Pineiro acquired her first career hat trick and the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team obtained its largest win of the Sue Vodicka era with an 8-1 win over Coker College on Tuesday evening.

The win was not only the largest of the five-year Vodicka era, but one of the largest in program history.

The USC Aiken women's soccer program has scored eight or more goals in a match in program history only five other times prior to Tuesday. The largest program win was reached on two separate occasions with the 2004 Pacers besting current PBC rival Georgia Southwestern 12-0 on Sept. 22, 2004 and the 2001 Pacers defeating Spelman 12-0 on Oct. 1, 2001.

Three of USC Aiken's biggest wins came against Spelman with the Pacers outscoring Spelman 33-0 over a three-year stretch from 2000-02.

Pineiro (Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester High School) has now scored four times in USC Aiken's last two games as she also netted a goal in the Pacers' match with North Georgia last Saturday at the "Pacer Pit." Pineiro also acquired an assist in the win over Coker on Tuesday to finish her incredible night on Tuesday with seven total points.

Pineiro was one of five Pacers to find the back of the net on Tuesday. Carly Minx (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford High School) was the only other Pacer with multiple goals with the redshirt freshman scoring twice. She also had an assist.

Senior Alie Brady (Summerville, S.C./Summerville High School) led the Pacers in assists in the match with two. She was one of six different Pacers to tally an assist in the match.

In total, USC Aiken took an astounding 30 shots in the match. The Cobras took just five in the loss.

All nine goals in the match came in the final 55 minutes of the match as the contest remained scoreless amazingly until the 35th-minute when Pineiro scored off an assist from Brady.

The floodgates opened from there with USC Aiken scoring three more times in the final 10 minutes of the first half to hold a commanding 4-0 lead at intermission.

Pineiro scored her second of the match and the Pacers' second of the contest at the 39:10 mark when she used a pass from teammate Brittany Paletar (Bel Air, Md./Milton Wright High School) to give the Pacers a 2-0 advantage.

Katie Rumble (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken High School) got into the act shortly after Pineiro's second netter, taking a cross from Pineiro and putting it into the back of the goal. The goal was the first of Rumble's career.

Minx acquired her first goal of the match with just over a minute and a half left in the first stanza. Emily Dodd (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta High School) and Brady assisted on the goal. The assist was the first of Dodd's career.

The Pacers kept things in their favor right from the second half whistle, scoring less than five minutes into the second half. Minx scored the goal on an assist from Jennifer Goodwin (Walterboro, S.C./Colleton County).

Goodwin then scored one of her own 12 minutes later when she took a ball from Minx just outside of the box and then deftly placed into the back of the goal for a 6-0 Pacer lead.

Coker would be able to take a shutout away from the Pacers with a Jill Giguere goal at the 66:40 mark, but USC Aiken kept pushing offensively with Diana Eaton (Clover, S.C./Clover High School) claiming her first goal in a Pacer uniform next on a rebound at the 85:18 mark.

The final Pacers tally of the night came in the 89th-minute when Pineiro broke away from the Cobra defense to strike for her third goal and net the hat trick.

The Pacers will next close out the week by playing host to Mars Hill at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the "Pacer Pit."
