Each week, the University of South Carolina Aiken will produce weekly notes. This week, USC Aiken hosts Young Harris on Saturday.
First From The Returners
It was not until the fifth match of the season that head coach
Tina Murphy's team had a point scored by a returner. This occurred when
Caroline Czarnecki found the back of the net for her first goal of the year against No. 23 Flagler.
Competing Against The Best
Head coach
Tina Murphy's team went toe-to-toe with No. 23 Flagler last week. Trailing 2-0 in a defensive battle, Murphy's squad netted a second-half goal, slicing the deficit to 2-1. The Pacers played well enough to tie the match but a late score by the home team secured a 3-1 win for the Saints.
Tremendous Defense
USC Aiken has already pitched three shutouts through the first six matches of the season. In fact, the Pacer defense is giving up less than a goal a match. The team has given up just five goals through six contests.
It Was About Time!
After facing an early bit of adversity for the season-opening match that was supposed to be played at home but was moved to Erskine, USC Aiken saw its first home match of the year on Sept. 17. It was the sixth match of the season before the Pacers managed to play in front of their home fans.
Back-To-Back
Although the squad was on the road the first five matches of the season, USC Aiken opened its home slate on Saturday, Sept. 17 with a tie against Clayton State. The Pacers will now get to have another home match in their next outing, which happens Sept. 24 against Young Harris. It's the first of three back-to-back dates the squad has on the home slate.
