Men's Basketball | June 17, 2022
Throughout June, Pacer Athletics will feature a Top Moment for each sport from the 2021-22 academic year. The seventh Top Moment comes from the men's basketball program.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team would go toe-to-toe with anybody in the region throughout the 2021-22 season. Two examples of this were when the squad bested national-ranked Flagler – not once, but twice.
On Jan. 8, the team jumped out to an 11-point halftime advantage in St. Augustine, Fla., against the No. 25 team in Division II. The Pacers registered 21 points from all-conference honoree
David Strother while
Tyler Johnson and
Preston Parks each poured in double figures. The team netted a 67-65 victory despite playing shorthanded.
Picking up the road win was outstanding, but one of the brightest moments of the year came on Homecoming. Playing in front of a raucous crowd on Feb. 12, the Pacers drained 44.8 percent of their shots from the floor and dominated the No. 17 Saints by a 78-61 score. Parks led the team with 25 points while
Jalen McCoy poured in 21 markers. Fellow all-conference selection
Tehree Horn netted 17 points, including burying all 11 attempts from the charity stripe.
