Jackson’s Career High Sends Pacers Past Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga. TJ Jackson erupted for a career-high 32 points as the USCA men's basketball team secured an 80-79 victory at Georgia Southwestern Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 12-15 on the year, including 7-12 in PBC play.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was paced by Jackson's 32 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor, including nine-of-15 from downtown. The nine three-point buckets marked the fourth most in school history. McCaskill Rivers notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Chedlet Delva also posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Jonah Lawrence added 11 markers. Caleb Byrd had five points while Deandre Smart and William Vasser Jr., chipped in four points and two points, respectively.

Lawrence canned a pull-up jumper and Rivers hit two free throws for a quick 6-2 edge. Lawrence and Rivers each made inside shots for a 10-4 advantage at the 12:43 mark. Down 15-12, Lawrence found Jackson for a three-point bucket.

The back-and-forth affair saw USCA take a 22-21 lead when Rivers found Jackson for another shot form distance, giving the visitors a 22-21 advantage. Jackson drained another three-ball, this time making it 27-26 at the 2:15 mark.  Delva pulled the squad within two, but GSW made a pair of free throws just before halftime for a 33-29 margin at intermission.

Jackson hit a pair of three-point buckets within the first 2:05, helping the team make it a 37-35 contest. His second shot from deep started a 7-0 spurt that saw Jackson make a free throw and Lawrence hit three more charity tosses for a 39-37 lead.

Trailing 43-42, Rivers sliced through the defense for a lay-up. Jackson canned a three-point basket before William Vasser Jr., took a pass from Rivers for an inside shot and a six-point cushion at the 14:10 mark. A bucket from Smart and a lay-up from Jackson gave the team a 55-49 working margin.

Leading 63-62, Jackson found Rivers for an inside shot. Lawrence connected with Byrd for a three-ball, giving the squad a 68-62 advantage. Jackson's three-point shot pushed the score to 71-63. Delva canned two charity tosses, but the Hurricanes embarked on an 8-0 run.

Rivers quickly took a pass from Byrd and nailed a shot from behind the arc, once again giving the Pacers the lead, 76-74. Trailing 77-76, Delva and Lawrence connected on baskets. The Hurricanes made two foul shots with 24 seconds remaining, making it a one-point game.

For the game, USCA hit 29-of-72 from the floor, including 12-of-30 from downtown. The team hit 10-of-17 from the charity stripe. The Pacers held a 47-42 edge on the glass. USCA dished out 18 assists and scored 11 points off 10 turnovers. Vanderslice's team maintained a 34-28 advantage in the paint.
