Are they best friends or sisters that are extremely close? Could they be both? Those are the questions that many could ask when it comes to Kayla and Emily
Duggan.
Kayla is a senior on the volleyball team while Emily is a sophomore. Growing up, the two were always very close.
Whenever Kayla would pursue an opportunity, her younger sister would soon take it up as well. This included dancing and sports.
When Kayla started playing volleyball, Emily soon followed. The two were able to play on the same team in high school, but they each thought it would be the last time they would play on the same squad.
Kayla enrolled at USC Aiken in the fall of 2017. Despite having to deal with an injury, she played in 20 matches. As a sophomore, she started all 28 matches and earned a spot on the NCAA Southeast Regional all-tournament team.
While Kayla was at USC Aiken, Emily was thriving at
Fernandina Beach H.S. Emily reached out to several Division II schools in the PBC, but it wasn't until Kayla mentioned to her to try and reach out to head coach
Glenn Cox that she thought about becoming a Pacer.
In 2019, Emily and Kayla were both on the team – Emily as a freshman and Kayla as a junior. Kayla, a starter, came out of the match in the third set against Converse. Her sub? Emily. The special substitution allowed the sisters to share another outstanding moment in their lives – one that will probably become even more special as they get older.
