LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standouts Christine Carroll and Rebecca Martinez have been named honorable mention All-Americans by the AVCA.

The duo guided the Pacers to a 23-5 overall mark and an 11-1 ledger in PBC regular-season play. The dyad helped the squad to the league regular-season title. The two led the Pacers to the Sweet 16 for just the second time in school history.

Carroll, the PBC Player of the Year and first-team all-league selection, topped the conference in points per set (4.6) and was third in total points (419.0).  

She led the team with 350 kills, which was fifth in the PBC. Her 3.85 kills per frame topped the team and was second in the league as was her hitting percentage (.324). Carroll finished among the PBC leaders in solo blocks (26 - second), block assists (54 - 12^th) and total blocks (80 - ninth). She was also seventh in blocks per set (0.88).    

Carroll entered the school record book for career solo blocks and is currently ninth (42).

She established career highs this season for kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, assists, service aces, digs, solo blocks, block assists, total blocks, blocks per set, points and points per set.  

Martinez is a two-time PBC Libero of the Year. The two-time first-team all-conference honoree led the nation in digs per set (7.86). Her 739 digs on the season marked a career high.

Martinez shattered several school marks in 2018 while also toppling the PBC's single-season record with 22 matches of 20-plus digs. Her 8.02 digs per set in league play also shattered the previous single-set average high.

Martinez entered the school record book 12 times in 2018 for digs in a single match, with seven of the top-10 marks in a three-set match, four of the top-10 matches in a four-set contest and the second-best effort in a five-set match.

She posted a career-high 43 digs in the four-set win against NCAA-Tournament participant Spring Hill at the Valdosta State Tournament. Martinez set the school record for digs in a three-set match (39) and four-set match (43) in 2018.

She is second on USC Aiken's career digs chart (1,873), seventh on the PBC career overall chart and fifth on the PBC career list in the 25-point rally scoring era.

Martinez also picked up D2CCA all-region honors (2017, 2018) and was a D2CCA second-team All-American last year.

The last USC Aiken student-athlete prior to this season to pick up honors from the AVCA was Ashley Diedrich in 2015 when she was named an honorable mention All-American.
