Throughout the 2018 season, the USC Aiken Athletic Communications office will provide weekly notes, giving all of Pacer Nation an in-depth look at the team.
Olson Twins Shine
Last week, Gressa and
Willa Olson put forth a tremendous effort in the victory over the Flying Fleet.
Gressa Olson assisted on the first goal of the match before finding the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Not to be outdone,
Willa Olson finished the scoring with a goal in the 38
th minute of play.
Armendariz Has Powerful Leg
Monica Armendariz registered her second goal of the season – and tallied her first game-winner – in the victory over Erskine. She took a pass from
Gressa Olson and blasted the shot over the keeper for a 1-0 lead in the 3-0 shutout.
Stealing Is Ok
In the shutout of Erskine, the Pacers got on the board first after a steal of a pass in the offensive third of the pitch.
Gressa Olson stole the ball and flicked it to
Monica Armendariz for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
Playing Tough
After a quick first goal by Columbus State, USC Aiken's defense stifled the opposition for much of the rest of the match. Although the Cougars scored two more goals, the defense did a solid job of not giving the visitors easy or uncontested looks at the frame. CSU had 30 shots, including 16 on goal, but the defense did manage to stifle the high-scoring visitors for much of the match.
Save The Day
Sophomore
Tashiana Kwatowski, a midfielder by trade, started her first match between the pipes – and did so against the No. 3 team in Division II – Columbus State. Kwatowski was unafraid of the Cougars, registering 13 saves in the 3-0 defeat. The 13 saves tied the season high for USC Aiken – with 13 saves coming against nationally-ranked North Georgia in the 7-0 loss.
