Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Four second-half goals and a dominant performance by the University of South Carolina Aiken led the home team to a 5-0 victory Saturday afternoon against Georgia Southwestern.
The Pacers improve to 5-5 on the season and 2-3 against conference competition.
USC Aiken played virtually the entire match in its offensive third, totaling 37 shots in the contest, including 20 during the opening frame.
In the first period, despite controlling the ball, the Pacers were unable to break through until late. After the Hurricanes' keeper tallied six saves in the stanza, head coach Sue Vodicka's team notched a goal with 52 seconds remaining.
Jenna Beauregard dribbled past two defenders and fought off another before blasting a shot that found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Vodicka's team struck again for a 2-0 advantage at the 46:58 mark. Olivia Stiltner chipped the ball over two defenders and found Hannah Allison for a goal.
In the 56th minute, Allison took a cross from Aubrey Danielson and headed it home for a 3-0 margin. Three minutes later, Allison found Cyndle McGuinness near the top of the box. McGuiness one-timed it to the corner of the goal, pushing the score to 4-0 for the home squad.
Allison earned her second assist of the day in the 67th minute when she found Deirdre Ball 20 yards away from the goal. Ball turned on Allison's pass, rocketing home a shot for the team's fifth and final tally of the match.
The Pacers totaled 37 shots for the match, 14 of which were on goal. The team totaled 17 shots in the final 45 minutes. USC Aiken totaled eight corner kicks and did not allow one for the visitors.
Alli Edens earned the shutout, playing all 90 minutes between the pipes. Vodicka's team allowed just one shot in the contest, which Edens easily picked up.
USC Aiken returns to action Wednesday at 5 p.m., when the team hosts Flager.
