Blair Tosses First No Hitter

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C.--Samantha Blair pitched her first collegiate no hitter, a day after throwing her first shutout, and the USC Aiken softball team won both games of a softball doubleheader against Mars Hill College tonight at Pacer Park on the USC Aiken campus. The Lady Pacers won both by similar 3-1 scores. The Lady Lions mustered just two hits against the USCA pitching staff. USC Aiken improves to 13-10 on the season while MHC falls to 6-19 overall.

In game two, Blair struck out nine batters and walked just two on her way to improving her record to 6-3. She got all the run support she would need in the second inning. Jayme Durand doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning and Jennifer Scott's single up the middle scored the first run of the game.

Scott (4) homered to leadoff the bottom of the fourth inning to put the Lady Pacers in front 2-0. The junior finished with two hits in two at bats, a walk, a run scored and two RBIs.

A leadoff walk to Elyse Hall in the top of the fifth led to the only run of the game for Mars Hill. Hall moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A dropped fly ball allowed the Lady Lions to cut the lead in half.

A single to center field by Ragen Reeves in the bottom of the fifth inning scored Nikki Lather and set the final score.

JoAnn Jones (5-4) kept Mars Hill scoreless for five innings, in the first game, as the Lady Pacers built a 3-0 lead. She allowed just two hits and one run over seven innings of work. The sophomore right-hander walked three batters but struck out five.

USCA platted what would turn out to be the winning run after an hour and 40-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ashley Dyches' single scored Brooke McSwain and gave USC Aiken a 2-0 lead. A ground out by Ashley Garnett in the fifth inning was enough to score Meghan Lynch from third and give the Lady Pacers a 3-0 advantage.

Jessica Valentine drove in MHC's only run in the sixth inning with a single through the left side. Courtney Kline scored on the play. Valentine finished one-for-two with a walk and an RBI.

The Lady Pacers will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against USC Spartanburg, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
