Pacers' 18 Hits "Key" In 11-7 Win

Box Score AIKEN, SC--Junior third baseman Bradley Key tied a school record with a 5-for-5 night including a pair of doubles, a home run, and five RBI in leading the USC Aiken Pacers (12-13) to an 11-7 win over Barton College (13-13) in non-conference baseball action Wednesday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The win gives the Pacers a split in the two-game series as USCA improves to 7-3 all-time versus Barton.

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, back-to-back RBI hits by Robert Davis and Key plated four runs as the Pacers reclaimed the lead 8-6. With the bases loaded, Davis ripped a 3-1 pitch to left field scoring Daniel Quartararo and Zach Cooper to knot the game up at 6-6. Key then stepped into the batters' box and doubled to left field to bring home Ashley Farr and Davis to push the Pacers ahead by two.

Later, in the bottom of the eight, Key added a two-run homer over the left field wall to make it 10-6 in favor of USCA. The 5-11 junior from Evans, Georgia became the fifth player in school history to post five hits in a single game, the last to do it was Antonio Evans in an April 2, 1998 game with Presbyterian. Key extended his current hitting streak to 16 games and upped his team-leading batting average to .385.

An RBI double by Farr and an RBI single by Key got the Pacers on the board in the first inning 2-0. Barton countered with a four-run second inning highlighted by Fabri Bonilla's RBI single to center field and Travis Holloman's sacrifice fly.

Cooper's two-out single to right field plated Brandon Barenie in the fourth to draw USCA within a run at 4-3, but the Bulldogs fired back in the top of the fifth with a Tyler Petty RBI double and a Rufus Wilson RBI single to push out in front 6-3.

Jerod Summer worked 4.2 innings for the Pacers scattering eight hits, allowing six runs, four earned, on one walk and one strikeout in the no decision. Freshman Jon Paul (1-0) worked out of a jam to end the fifth. He did not give up a run, allowing two hits and striking out three in 1.1 innings for his first collegiate win.

Nick Wandless (2) came on with a fragile 8-6 lead and two on with no outs in the seventh, to sit the Bulldogs down in order. He retired seven-straight until Dennis Blackmon's one-out double in the ninth. He finished with 3.0 innings of work, one earned run on two hits, striking out four in the save.

Will Tyson logged 5.0 innings in the start for Barton surrendering four earned runs on 10 hits and two walks in the no decision. Michael Parker (0-1) notched the loss as he was tagged for four earned runs on four hits and two walks in 2.0 innings.

Quartararo and Farr each had three hits for the Pacers and combined to score four runs. Davis was 1-for-3, but drove in two and scored three times. Barenie was 2-for-5.

Blackmon went 3-for-4 to lead Barton. Eric McInerny, Michael Kopp, and Bonilla each added two hits for the Bulldogs.

USC Aiken will next host #16 Georgia College & State University in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series starting this Friday, March 19 at 6:00 PM and Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
