Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--USC Aiken's softball team defeated fourth ranked University of North Florida today, for the first time ever. The Lady Pacers beat the Lady Ospreys, 8-7, in game one of a doubleheader in Jacksonville, Fla., ending a streak of 14 consecutive losses to UNF. North Florida won game two, 2-0, and improved to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference. USCA moves to 6-5 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

USC Aiken entered the final inning of game one trailing North Florida by three runs. With one out Brooke McSwain reached first base on an infield single. A Jami Cornwell single and a walk by Jennifer Scott loaded the bases for Jayme Durand. Durand drove an Alisha Phillips pitch into left field scoring McSwain. Cornwell was thrown out at third base and USCA trailed 7-5 with two outs.

A double by Sarah Harvey drove in the tying runs and Ashley Dyches scored Harvey from second base with a single to left field, giving the Lady Pacers the one run advantage.

JoAnn Jones retired the first two batters in the bottom half of the seventh inning before the tying run reached first base in the form of a Cari Chewning single. Jones came back and got Laura Hanstein to ground out to end the game. 

Harvey and Dyches each finished two-for-four with two RBIs. Harvey scored two runs. Kelly Ford also drove in two runs.

In game two, Chewning won a pitching battle with USCA senior Amy Fox. Chewning allowed just two hits over seven innings and struck out 12 batters. Fox scattered eight hits over six innings, walked six batters and struck out one.

Chewning's RBI single in the first inning proved to be all North Florida would need. The Lady Ospreys added another run in the bottom of the sixth off of a Danielle Weaver sacrifice fly. 

Harvey and Durand recorded the only two hits of the game for USC Aiken.
The Lady Pacers will return to action on Monday when they face Augusta State University, in a non-conference doubleheader in Augusta, Ga., beginning at 2:00 p.m.
