Newberry Crushes Two Home Runs In 13-4 Road Win

COCHRAN, Ga. – The USCA softball team scored in four of the five innings in the 13-4 road win at Middle Georgia Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 22-17 on the season, including 6-7 in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top in the first frame. Peri Rouillard led off the game with a single through the left side of the infield. Two batters later, Kate Newberry crushed an 0-1 offering over the left field wall for a two-run margin.

Rouillard led off the third with a walk and took second on Autumn Fisher's sacrifice fly. After Newberry drew a walk, Madilyn Rouse blasted a three-run shot over the left center field wall, extending the margin to 5-0.

USCA added to the advantage an inning later. Anna Turner led off the inning with a four-pitch walk. Rouillard singled to third and Fisher walked, loading the bases. Newberry singled home Turner. Rouse's single up the middle plated Rouillard and Fisher for an 8-0 lead. Kaylee Bolding's infield single pushed Karlie Kemper to third, who had entered as a pinch runner. Mollie Rollings roped a double and moved to third on a fielding error by the catcher, allowing Kemper, Chloe Webb and Bolding to race home for an 11-0 cushion.

Up 11-4 in the fifth, Fisher walked and trotted home when Newberry launched her second two-run shot one pitch later.

For the game, Rouse posted four hits, including a home run and a double. She drove in five. Newberry smacked two round trippers, had three hits and scored three times. Lydia Johnson, Rouillard and Webb had two hits apiece. Rouillard crossed home three times while Fisher scored twice. Rollings had three RBI on her double.

In the circle, Abbie Kegley picked up the complete-game win. She had three strikeouts.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they play a doubleheader at MGSU starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
