Box Score 3 COLUMBUS, Ga.--USC Aiken won two games of a three game series with sixteenth ranked Columbus State University this weekend at Ragsdale Field on the CSU campus in Columbus, Ga. USCA won the opening game on Friday night 4-2. On Saturday the two teams split a pair of 10 inning games. USC Aiken won the first, 7-6, and Columbus State took the second, 4-3.
The Cougars fall to 27-16 on the season and 10-10 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Pacers improve to 25-20 overall and 10-13 in league play.
Leroy Walker's home run (5) in the top of the 10th inning of game one of the doubleheader, his second of the game, proved to be the game winner.
Walker finished the game with four hits in four at bats, two runs scored, a walk and four RBIs.
After
Bradley Key singled and
Casey Calhoun doubled,
Walker's first homer gave the Pacers a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Columbus State scored in the bottom of the fourth, USCA added another run in the top of the sixth and took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
The Cougars erupted for four runs in the bottom of the seventh on five consecutive hits. Tommy Claridy had an RBI single, Andrew Ginther knocked in two with a base hit to right center and Taylor Groce drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give the lead to CSU, 5-4. USC Aiken took the lead back in the eighth inning with two runs and the Cougars forced an extra inning with a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth.
Nick Wandless came on in the 10th, after
Walker's shot gave the lead back to the Pacers, and closed out the game for his second save of the season.
Mike Pomaville picked up the win to improve to 6-5 on the season.

Calhoun each had three hits for USCA.
Brad Hightower provided the game winning home run in game two of the doubleheader. His shot, deep over the right field wall, gave the 10-inning win to Columbus State.
Trailing 3-1 in the sixth inning,
Demetrick Drumming (11) and
Tony Hanks (11) each sent solo homers over the left field wall to tie the game at 3-3.
Wandless (3-2) came on in relief again and pitched four innings, allowing two hits, one of which was Hightower's game winner. Hurston Pittman (6-1) pitched all 10 innings for CSU. He allowed seven hits, three runs, no walks and struck out six.
The Pacers used the strong pitching of
Wes McColl (7-4) to squeeze out the 4-2 win in the opening game of the series on Friday night. The junior went the distance, scattered seven hits, allowed two runs, walked just one batter and struck out three Cougars.
After
Mike Ross reached on a single in the top of the sixth,
Clint Keown and
Farr moved
Ross to third with a sacrifice bunt and a ground out.
Drumming drove
Ross in with a base knock and gave USC Aiken a 1-0 lead.
Claridy gave the lead to Columbus State with a double to left center that drove in Brian Koon and Larry Pittmon in the bottom of the seventh.
Just as he did in the sixth,
Ross led off the eighth with a single and moved to third after a sacrifice bunt and a ground out. After
Rossscored on a balk,
Drumming doubled and then scored, on a
Hanks base hit, to give the Pacers a 3-2 advantage.
USCA added another run in the top of the ninth, and with a runner on first,
McColl got Pittmon to hit into a double play in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
The Pacers will step out of conference play on Tuesday when they host Newberry College at J.H. Satcher Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
