Box Score AIKEN, SC--Carson-Newman (3-5) plated four runs in the top of the ninth and six more in the top of the 10th to pull out a 15-13 come-from-behind win over the 14th ranked USC Aiken Pacers (4-2) on Sunday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field. USCA, however, won the series with the Eagles 2-1.
In the fifth inning, trailing 4-0, the Pacers pushed across five runs on six hits to take their first lead of the game. Following a leadoff homer by
Leroy Walker (2), the Pacers strung together five straight singles.
Bradley Key then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Clint Keown to cap off the inning.
USCA never relinquished the lead until the top of the ninth inning. With runners at second and third with one out,
Ricky Luttrellcrushed a three-run shot over the left center field wall to take an 8-7 lead.
Adam Kuzma added a two-out RBI single to score
Harry Slater and make it 9-7 headed to the bottom of the ninth.
With their backs against the wall, the Pacers came out swinging.
Ashley Farr (1) led off with a home run to right center.
Farr finished 4-of-6 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored.
After
Key singled,
Demetrick Drumming popped up to shortstop and
Tony Hanks grounded out to third.
Walker singled home
Key and then
Mike Cunningham ended the inning with a strikeout.
Walker and
Key each went 2-for-5 and combined for four RBI and three runs scored.
Cunningham was 4-for-5 while
Drumming drove in four runs.
In the 10th,
Chad McMurray (0-1) retired two of the first three batters he faced. Then things got ugly. Carson-Newman scored six runs on just two hits.
McMurray,
Adam Green, and
Josh Rhoden combined for four walks and three wild pitches in the inning. With USCA scoring four in the bottom of the 10th,
Nick Jacobs' two run homer proved to be the difference.
Nathan Gravley and
Luttrellcombined to go 6-for-9 with eight RBI and five runs scored to lead the Eagles.
The Pacers used nine pitchers.
Ryan West (1-1), the loser in game two yesterday, tossed the final 2.0 innings allowing five earned runs on six hits in the victory.
