Pacers Fight Back, But Fall To Queens 6-4

Box Score AIKEN, SC--USC Aiken fell to Queens University of Charlotte, 6-4, tonight in a non-conference women's soccer match in Aiken, S.C. The Lady Pacers fought back to tie the match at four after trailing 3-0 at the half. The Royals scored twice in the game's final five minutes to post the win. USCA drops to 2-8-0 overall while Queens improves to 6-7-1 in 2003.

Maria Housiadas and Jeannine Slevin combined to give Queens University a 3-0 lead 28 minutes into the match. Housiadas scored from the right side off a pass from Slevin for the game's first goal at 21:22. Slevin scored an unassisted goal four minutes later. Just three minutes after that Slevin gave the Royals a 3-0 lead off a pass to the middle from Housiadas.

Amanda Faulknham (Sumter, S.C.) got the Lady Pacers on the board with a goal at the 28:53 mark. Melissa Schnoering (Corpus Christi, Texas) cut the lead to one, two and a half minutes before halftime, on a sliding shot from the right side that beat Queens' goalkeeper Megan Mueller.

Twenty-three minutes into the second period, Housiadas extended the lead back to two with her second goal of the game. USC Aiken answered with two goals in a three-minute span to tie the game. Schnoering scored for the second time and Brooke Rushing (Savannah, Ga.) notched her first of the season off a Natasha DaCosta (London, Ontario) pass.

The match looked to be heading to overtime with five minutes remaining but Housiadas beat USCA goalkeeper Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) for the third time to put the Royals ahead 5-4. Queens added insurance with Crystal Walch's score just over a minute later.

Hobbs allowed six goals and saved five shots in 90 minutes of action. Mueller played the entire game as well, saving three shots and allowing four goals. Queens out shot the Lady Pacers, 18-10.

USC Aiken host Clayton College & State University on Saturday for a Peach Belt Conference match. The teams will begin at 1:00 p.m.
