AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken golf standout Rory McDonald O'Brien has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Month for March.
McDonald O'Brien, a native of Shrewsbury, England, guided the Pacers to a top-five national ranking.
McDonald O'Brien started the month by winning the 27
th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. He shot three-under par, 207 for the tournament. McDonald O'Brien registered scores of 69-68-70. He bested 74 other competitors in the field while leading the team to a second-place effort.
McDonald O'Brien was just the fourth Pacer to win the prestigious tournament and the first since 2013. Other individual champions from USC Aiken were in 2003 and 2007.
McDonald O'Brien followed that up with an 11
th-place effort at the Bobcat Invitational. He posted scores of 67-72-76 at the tournament. McDonald O'Brien's effort led USC Aiken to a sixth-place finish.
He wrapped up the month by helping the Pacers claim a fifth-place effort at the Tennessee River Rumble.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2023-24 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
