AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball standout
Tyler Johnson has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Month for January.
Johnson, a native of Athens, Ga., guided the Pacers to a 6-3 ledger in January.
He averaged 17 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Johnson led the team with 13 steals and was second on the team with 16 assists. He connected on 52-of-105 shots from the floor (49.5 percent), including 21-of-46 (45.7 percent) from downtown. Johnson also drained 28-of-35 (80.0 percent) from the charity stripe.
During the month, he reached double figures in eight of the nine contests. Additionally, he scored his 1,000
th career point in the home victory over Columbus State. Johnson erupted for a career-high 34 points to go along with 13 rebounds in the overtime victory at USC Beaufort.
In the win over the Sand Sharks, Johnson buried a career-high 12 shots from the floor while shooting 66.7 percent (12-of-18). He made a season-high five three-point buckets (five-of-seven) in the road win at Augusta.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2023-24 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
