AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball standout David
Strother has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Month for January.
Strother, a 6-2 guard from
Lumberton, N.C., led the Pacers to a 6-2 month.
He played in all eight games, earning seven starts.
Strother poured in 17.9 points per game. He led the team with 143 points, notched a team-high 32 assists and registered a team-best 19 steals.
For the month,
Strother hit 48-of-102 from the floor (47.1 percent), including 14-of-36 from downtown (38.9 percent). He also buried 33-of-42 from the charity stripe (78.6 percent).
During the month,
Strother posted a career-high 29 points in the win over North Georgia, played a season-high 44 points in the double-overtime victory at Georgia Southwestern, hit a season-best nine field goals against the Nighthawks, snagged a season-high eight rebounds in the win over Lander and recorded a season-best five steals at nationally-ranked Georgia College.
He was instrumental in the road win at nationally-ranked Flagler and was clutch at the free throw line down the stretch against UNG.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2021-22 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
