AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Jose Bonilla has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Month for May.
Bonilla, a junior from Aguada, P.R., helped the Pacers to a solid showing in the PBC and NCAA Tournaments.
He batted a team-best .382 while starting all eight games. He accounted for a team-high 13 hits, including a pair of doubles and one of the team’s two triples.
Bonilla registered 17 total bases while accounting for a team-high seven runs scored. He slugged .500 for the week and sported a .447 on-base percentage. Bonilla swiped four bases without being caught. Additionally, he was perfect in the field with 13 putouts and no errors.
For the month, Bonilla accounted for four multi-hit games. He also had at least one hit in each contest and concluded the season with a 13-game hitting streak to go along with reaching base safely in 15 consecutive contests.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2016-17 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
