Yariel Diaz has been named the PBC Player of the Week while fellow standout
Maverick Grigsby has been tabbed the PBC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Diaz went 11-for-18 on the week for a .611 batting average. He tallied at least one hit in each contest in the 4-0 week while posting three multi-hit performances. In the opener against Augusta, he had a single, one RBI and scored once. Against Claflin on Friday, Diaz posted three hits, three RBI and scored. He accounted for two hits, two RBI and scored three times in Saturday's victory. In Sunday's series finale, Diaz tied the school record with five hits. He also tied the school record with four doubles while also crossing home twice.
For the week, Diaz accounted for 10 RBI, six doubles and scored seven times.
Grigsby went eight-for-15 in four games last week for a .533 batting average. He rattled off three hits in the series opener against Claflin and posted a career-high five RBI. In the second game against the Panthers, Grigsby tallied two hits, drove in two and scored twice. He closed the week with a three-hit performance with two RBI.
For the week, Grigsby tallied nine RBI, scored five times and had a pair of doubles.
