Each week, USC Aiken will post notes. This week, USC Aiken hosts American International on Friday, Feb. 16, Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18.
Adjusting To Changes
Head coach
Michael Holder's team had to adjust on the fly prior to and during the series at No. 11 West Florida. The three-day series was switched to just two days. The Friday doubleheader started on time but had delays prior to the second game, which was switched to a seven-inning contest. The final game of the series was slated for 3 p.m. but was then moved up before moving back to a 3 p.m. start.
Nearly Knocking Off No. 11
USC Aiken has played well during the first two weekends of the season against extremely tough competition. Last Saturday, the Pacers nearly knocked off No. 11 West Florida. The team held an early 1-0 lead and a 4-1 lead at the midway point of the game. The squad placed runners on base late but came up just short in the 6-4 loss.
Newcomers Making Some Noise
JB Bell and
Capers Molinaroli have been making some noise during the first six games of the season. Bell leads the team with a .389 batting average while Molinaroli is second on the squad with a .348 batting average. Molinaroli has a team-best eight hits while Bell and
Josh Sharp are tied for second on the team with seven hits apiece.
Steger's Striking Them Out
After missing last season,
Hunter Steger has looked solid in his return. Through two starts, Steger has 11 strikeouts, nearly doubling anyone else on the team. He's averaging 1.2 strikeouts per inning.
