AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a hard fought 4-3 contest to UNC Pembroke Tuesday evening.
The Pacers are now 25-10 on the season.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team jumped on top of the Braves with three runs in the second inning. With one down,
Salvatore Laimo recorded a single up the middle. After taking second on a groundout,
Johann Rodriguez's single to center field pushed Laimo across home plate for a 1-0 lead. Rodriguez stole second and scored on
Donovan Glisson's base hit up the middle. On the ensuing pitch,
Osmin Melendez doubled home Glisson for a three-run margin.
The score remained 3-0 until the Braves scored four runs in the eighth inning.
USCA tried to knot the score in the bottom of the eighth. With two away,
Maverick Grigsby recorded a 2-2 single down the left field line. He hustled to third on Rodriguez's base knock to center field, but a pop-up in shallow center field ended the threat.
Gorman's squad tallied three runs on 11 hits in the contest.
For the game, Laimo and Rodriguez had three hits apiece. Grigsby posted two hits. Melendez notched a double for the home squad.
On the mound,
Brady Dunlop worked 7.2 innings and gave up two unearned runs on four hits. He had three strikeouts.
CJ Lincoln worked the final 1.1 innings and gave up two runs on two hits. He had a strikeout.
