GREENWOOD, S.C. – The USCA baseball team dropped a 10-8 decision at Lander Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 26-11 on the year, including 14-6 in PBC play.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team took a 2-0 lead in the second stanza.
Maverick Grigsby led off the stanza with a double down the right field line. He was able to trot home when
Johann Rodriguez blasted the ensuing pitch over the left field wall for the two-run cushion.
With the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the fourth,
Joshua Johnson reached on a fielding error. He stole second and scored on
Chancellor Jennings' single through the left side of the infield, making it 3-2.
The Bearcats scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth for an 8-3 lead. Lander added a run in the sixth and eighth frames for a seven-run margin.
Gorman's squad continued to play hard and cut into the deficit in the ninth. Jennings led things off with a single to right field while
Yariel Diaz picked up a single to left field. After
Blake Martin registered a base hit to right field,
Salvatore Laimo doubled to left center field, plating Jennings, Diaz and Martin. Grigsby's double knocked in Laimo, slicing the margin to three, 10-7. With two outs,
Osmin Melendez posted a single to left field, driving in Grigsby for the final tally. In the ninth, the team accounted for five runs on seven hits, but left two stranded.
For the game, Diaz posted four hits. Martin added three. Harding, Jennings, Laimo, Grigsby, Rodriguez and Melendez each had two hits. Laimo drove in three while Rodriguez plated two. Grigsby, who had two doubles, scored twice. Rodriguez garnered a home run. Harding and Laimo tallied doubles.
On the mound,
Myles Chabi had a pair of strikeouts in three innings.
Kyle Stock tallied three strikeouts in four innings of work.
Dylan Dickert tossed a frame while
CJ Lincoln also saw time on the bump.
