AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's cross country team is ready for the upcoming Converse Invitational, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 16.
Head coach
Marshall Leonard's team is coming off a third-place effort at the Blue Bear Invitational. There, newcomer
Julio Rojas shattered the school record en route to earning PBC Runner of the Week honors.
In addition to his fourth-place individual effort, rookie
Justin Kaimann registered the second-fastest time in school history with a mark of 27:22.42. He accounted for a sixth-place finish at the meet.
Third-year standout
Julian Mendoza notched a top-20 effort in the 8k event, crossing the line in 14
th place.
"We are excited about the opportunity to run against some great competitors," Leonard said. "There will be athletes at this meet that ran in the national championship last season. The better the competition, the better we run. We are looking to make some improvements with all the men across the board. This is an excellent moment in the season for us to gauge where we are individually and as a team."
The Pacers will be competing against Allen, Anderson, Belmont Abbey, Centre, Columbia College, Columbia International, Converse, Emory, Emory & Henry, Lander, Lincoln Memorial, North Greenville, Oglethorpe, Voorhees and Warren Wilson.
