AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken, in conjunction with head women's basketball coach Mark Miller, is excited to announce the addition of Jaya Nelson for the upcoming 2023-24 academic year.

Nelson joins fellow signees Serena Baker, Sami Bardonaro, Destiny Harman, Alivia Hikel, Morgan McDermott and Paris Webster beginning this fall.

"We are excited to add Jaya to our team," Miller stated. "She is a guard who can shoot it as well as beating defenders off the bounce. Her experience and leadership will bring energy to our young team."

Nelson is a 5-9 guard/forward from Tucson, Ariz. The rising junior previously attended Miami Dade College. There, she netted 16 points a game and snagged three rebounds per contest. Nelson buried 46.6 percent of her shots from the floor, including 40.5 percent from distance.

She attended Salpointe Catholic H.S., tallying 15 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game as a senior. Nelson averaged 14.4 points and 6.3 rebounds as a junior and notched 13.5 points to go along with 4.7 boards a night as a sophomore. She also played AAU ball for Az Supreme.
