Each week, USC Aiken will produce notes. This week, the Pacers play a three-game series at No. 3 North Georgia before playing at Mars Hill two days later.
Recapping Last Week
Last week, USC Aiken played three games against Young Harris in the team's lone contests. The Pacers went 2-1, clinching the series. The two wins helped the squad snap a two-game losing streak from a season again to the Mountain Lions.
Winning The Series
In three games last week, USC Aiken picked up two victories, securing the series victory. Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team won the series opener 9-1 before besting the Mountain Lions 2-1 in 11 innings in the nightcap.
Holly's Heroics
Web gems. That's the only way to describe
Holly Daum's defense as of late. She recently made some outstanding catches but over the weekend against Young Harris, Daum continued showing how she's one of the best defensive outfielders in the region. Daum snagged at least four catches that are highlight-reel, ESPN Top 10 worthy.
Taylor Made For The Opportunity
Taylor Butts came to the plate with a runner on third base in the bottom of the 11
th inning against Young Harris. With two strikes, she got ahold of the pitch and laid down a beautiful bunt between the first baseman and pitcher. The ball went off the end of the first baseman's glove while
Mallory Shaver scored the game-winning run.
She Hits Dingers
Mallory Shaver picked a great time to launch her first two round-trippers of the season. In the series-opening victory over Young Harris, Shaver gave her team a 7-0 edge with a grand slam. Two innings later, she launched a solo shot over the center field wall for an 8-1 advantage.
Movin' On Up
Emily Ayers hit a home run last week, which marked her 16
th at USC Aiken. Ayers continues her climb up the record books. Her 16
th home run put her in a tie with Magan Jean Thrower for seventh place in school history. Ayers' next round-tripper will put her in a three-way tie for fifth with Sydney Kate Murphy and Chandler Terrapin.
Inside The Numbers
This week, USC Aiken plays at North Georgia on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4. The team returns to action on Monday, March 6 at Mars Hill. Since moving to Division II, the Pacers are 104-97-1 (51.7 percent) in Friday games, 226-190 (54.3 percent) in Saturday games and 42-43 (49.4 percent) in Monday games. During the same time, the team is 14-14 on March 3, 12-4 on March 4 and 9-9 on March 6.
Against The Opponent
This week, USC Aiken plays at No. 3 North Georgia for a three-game series before playing at Mars Hill for a doubleheader. The Nighthawks lead the all-time series 34-9 but USC Aiken prevailed in the last two games of the series. The Pacers hold a 12-1 edge in the all-time series against the Lions.
