AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Justin Byrd has been named the PBC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office.

Byrd, a native of Oconee, Ga., guided the Pacers to a 5-0 week.

He started the week off with a two-for-three effort against Newberry. Byrd blasted a solo home run and scored twice. In the midweek clash against Francis Marion, Byrd went three-for-five with a round-tripper to go along with three RBI.

In the win at North Georgia, he pounded out a hit and scored a run. Against the Nighthawks on Saturday, Byrd doubled in a pair of runs. For good measure, he tossed a scoreless inning on the mound. Byrd wrapped up the series with one hit and a run scored in the victory.

He is currently ninth in the PBC with three doubles and is fourth in the PBC with three round-trippers. Byrd is fifth in the conference for total bases (23) and 13^th in the PBC with 13 RBI.
