TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 7-1 decision to No. 2 Tampa Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 4-5 on the year. The Spartans are 8-1.
Interim head coach
Michael Holder's team plated a run in the first inning. With one away,
Josh Sharp singled to left and promptly stole second base.
Jackson Hannon's double to right field allowed Sharp to cross home for a 1-0 edge.
The Spartans took the lead with a four-run first inning. Tampa tacked on a run in the third and two in the eighth for the 7-1 score.
Kaden Blaneknship,
Sean McQuillan and
Nick Tripp all had singles in the game.
Carson Suess, McQuillan and Sharp drew walks while Hannon got on base via a hit by pitch.
Sharp continued his solid start with a stolen base.
Luke Parker worked 2.1 innings on the mound and took the loss. He struck out two and gave up five earned runs on four hits.
Joel Haney came in and worked 5.2 innings. He struck out nine batters and walked just three. Haney gave up two earned runs on a pair of hits.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Francis Marion at 4 p.m.
