AIKEN, S.C. – A seven-run fifth inning propelled the University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team to an 8-3 win over Francis Marion Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 5-5 on the season.
Interim head coach
Michael Holder's team was led by
Sean McQuillan's three base knocks. He drove in one run while scoring twice.
Jeff Cyr,
Scott Huntley and
Nick Tripp wrapped out two hits apiece. Joe Mozingo led the way with a pair of RBI. He also tallied the team's lone extra base knock – a double.
Jacob Fletcher worked five innings and posted a pair of strikeouts en route to earning the win.
Austin Sandifer tossed a frame before
Jacob Rye came in for the three-inning save. Rye worked three innings, striking out three. He did not allow a run.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Holder's team went to work, plating seven runs for a lead they would not relinquish.
In the fifth,
Josh Sharp ripped a base knock to right field, scoring Huntley.
Jackson Hannon followed him with a hit up the middle, plating Cyr.
James Eckert reached on an error, allowing Sharp to cross home plate. McQuillan kept things going with another hit, scoring Hannon. Tripp's base knock plated Eckert before Mozingo's double plated McQuillan and Tripp for the 7-1 advantage.
