AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken, in conjunction with interim head baseball coach
Michael Holder, is pleased to announce the addition of
Tyler Miller and
Jason Richman to his staff.
"Coach Miller comes highly recommended from many people I wholeheartedly trust in the college baseball coaching profession," Holder said. "In addition, he comes from an undeniably hall of fame line of coaches within his family. His father, uncle, and late grandfather have always been well respected in the college coaching ranks. Needless to say, Tyler understands the commitment it takes to be successful at a very high level. I've had my eye on him for a long time, dating back to his playing days and always believed he'd make a fantastic coach. We are lucky to have him on board with us in Aiken!"
Miller's duties include working with infielders, hitters and serving as the recruiting coordinator.
Miller began his coaching career as an assistant at Carson-Newman. There, he coached the outfielders and assisted with the offense.
Prior to his arrival at USC Aiken, Miller returned to his home state and was the assistant at USC Sumter during the 2021 campaign. He helped the Fire Ants to a 32-24 ledger and a third-place finish in the Region 10 Tournament. Miller guided the squad to a .305 batting average and a .400 on-base percentage.
As a student-athlete, Miller attended Anderson University and was a two-time honorable mention all-SAC shortstop. As a senior, he added a Gold Glove to his accolades. During his senior season, Miller tallied 144 assists and finished the year with a .939 fielding percentage. Offensively, Miller ranks in the top 10 of five different categories at Anderson including hits, walks, hit by pitches, at bats and runs scored.
"Coach Richman is on the rise to become one of the best pitching coaches in college baseball," Holder stated. "His ability to relate to players on a personal level, his analytical knowledge of pitching and understanding the demands of playing at a very high level will lead to major improvements with our pitching staff. Jason attacks each day with energy, optimism, and intensity that runs off on everyone around him. We are lucky to have both he and his wife, Hunter, join the Pacer family."
Richman comes to USC Aiken after serving as a coach on the Georgia Southern staff from 2019-2021. There, he worked with the pitching coach and served as the bullpen coach on gamedays. Richman also handled the budget, booked hotels, planned meals, managed nutrition, planned team events and coordinated transportation.
Richman played for Georgia Southern. In 2014, he was tabbed the Southern Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player. That same year, he was the Tom Walter/Pete Frates College Baseball Inspiration Award Winner. Richman also led the NCAA in appearances with 47 in 60 games.
In 2015, he picked up NCAA Pitcher of the Week accolades. After the season, Richman was an 18
th-round draft pick from the Texas Rangers. He worked his way up to AAA with the Rangers and Dodgers.
Richman has worked with five players who have been drafted or signed professional contracts, including Seth Shuman, Joe Nahas, Nick Jones, Jordan Jackson and Jon Edwards.
