USC Aiken Student-Athletes Give Back To Community

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken Department of Athletics partnered with Golden Harvest Food Bank Tuesday to give back to the community.

Student-athletes from each of the 10 sports, in addition to the Spirit Squad, coaches and administrators, assisted in the food distribution event. With an extensive line of vehicles at the USC Aiken Convocation Center, two trucks carrying food arrived and were unloaded prior to the event.

“We were happy to help Golden Harvest distribute food to those in need in our community,” Compliance Coordinator Susan Hood said. “We are proud of all the student-athletes who gave their time to provide a service to the community.”

“Working in the food drive meant a lot not only to those who received the food, but also from everyone who worked the event,” baseball standout Marcus Mastellone said. “Being able to give back to the community was a great experience for everyone involved and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.”

In all, USC Aiken had over 150 cars and about 175 families that came through the line during the event, which lasted over two hours.

“Giving back to the community is such an awesome feeling” women’s soccer standout Teagan Kersey said. “The impact we made on the individuals we served today in just a short amount of time is so uplifting. I’m glad we could all help make someone’s day a little better. The smiling faces and hearing how grateful and appreciative everyone was for all the food we provided them with today was very inspiring. I hope we can lend a hand to even more families next year!”

It marked the second consecutive year USC Aiken Athletics has partnered with Golden Harvest Food Bank.
