Top Moments Of 2018-19: No. 1 – Pacers Make Tremendous Run To Elite 8

After reaching the PBC Championship match, USC Aiken secured one of the two NCAA Southeast Regional sites for the NCAA Tournament. The Pacers responded by claiming a win over No. 14 North Georgia in the opening round. In a battle between two top-10 teams, the squad bested No. 6 Wingate 4-2 in the NCAA Southeast Region Championship, earning a berth in the Sweet 16.

There, the team earned the No. 5 overall seed and was paired with No. 29 Drury in the opening round. The Pacers took care of business with a 4-1 win, sending the team to its first-ever Elite 8. The season culminated with a loss to Hawaii Hilo, but it was a tremendous run by a team that would finish No. 3 in the final rankings.

AIKEN, S.C. - The No. 5 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team notched a 4-1 victory over No. 14 North Georgia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers improve to 17-3 on the year while the Nighthawks conclude their year at 15-8.

Head coach Steve Dahm's team fell behind early in doubles action after Francesco Satta and Alex Sklizovic dropped a 6-4 contest at No. 3 doubles. However, the dyad of Salvador Bandeira and Antonio Sabugueiro, ranked No. 6 nationally, posted a 6-4 victory. USC Aiken earned the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-0) win at No. 2 thanks in part to the duo of Vicente Andrades and Tales Silva

Dahm's team increased the lead to 2-0 as Alvaro Garcia Gil claimed a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles. After the Nighthawks closed the gap to 2-1, Satta gave the home team a 3-1 advantage after earning a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6. Sabugueiro clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.  

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 5 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team knocked off No. 6 Wingate by a 4-2 score Monday morning, earning a spot in the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.

The Pacers are now 18-3 on the season while the Bulldogs conclude the year at 20-5.

Head coach Steve Dahm's team won the doubles point Sunday morning by clinching victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Vicente Andrades and Tales Silva posted a 6-4 victory at No. 2. After Salvador Bandeira and Antonio Sabugueiro fell 6-3, third-seeded Francesco Satta and Alex Sklizovic secured the point by winning 7-5.

The Bulldogs clamed a 2-1 lead after winning at No. 6 and No. 1 singles. However, Bandeira tied it with a resounding 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2.

Andrades went toe-to-toe with his opponent at No. 4 before besting him 6-4, 6-4. Holding a 3-2 lead, Sabugueiro once again clinched the match for the home squad. Sabugueiro registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory to send USC Aiken to the round of 16.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 5 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team posted a 4-1 victory over No. 29 Drury Tuesday afternoon in the Sweet 16.

The Pacers are now 19-3 on the season while the Panthers end their season at 17-6.

Head coach Steve Dahm's team took a 1-0 lead by claiming two of the doubles matches. Top-seeded Salvador Bandeira and Antonio Sabugueiro won a hard-fought 7-5 contest. Second-seeded Vicente Andrades and Tales Silva fell by the closest of margins, 7-6 (7-5). However, Francesco Satta and Alex Sklizovic notched a 7-6 (7-2) victory for a 1-0 advantage.

Alvaro Garcia Gil cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 slot for a 2-0 edge. After Drury got on the board with a three-set win at No. 6, Andrades registered a resounding 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position.

Salvador Bandeira picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 73 Augustin Diot at No. 2 singles, clinching the match.  

Silva and Sabugueiro did not complete their respective matches after USC Aiken clinched the victory.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 5 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team lost a hard-fought match to No. No. 15 (No. 4 seed) Hawaii Hilo Wednesday in the Elite Eight by a score of 4-0.

The Pacers conclude their outstanding season with a 19-4 ledger.

Head coach Steve Dahm's team played every match extremely close. In doubles action, top-seeded Salvador Bandeira and Antonio Sabugueiro lost a 6-3 decision. Third-seeded Alvaro Garcia Gil and Alex Sklizovic knotted the doubles action at 1-1 by claiming a 6-4 victory. However, Hawaii Hilo won the point by taking a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles over the tandem of Vicente Andrades and Tales Silva.

Sklizovic fell by a 6-1, 6-0 count at No. 6 singles, giving the designated home team a 2-0 lead. After Silva dropped the first frame 6-1, but bounced back to force extra points in the second stanza before falling 7-5. Hawaii Hilo took the match by winning at No. 5 7-5, 6-4 over Garcia Gil.

The remaining three matches went unfinished, but Andrades was up 0-6, 6-3, 5-2 in the third set. Sabugueiro and his foe just started the third frame while Bandeira, who lost the first set, was virtually even in the second stanza.

The 19 victories for USC Aiken this season tied for the most under Dahm. The squad finished the 2009 campaign with a 19-5 ledger.
