Box Score AIKEN, SC--USC Aiken (16-14) made quick work of the visiting West Virginia Tech Golden Bears in non-conference baseball Wednesday night at a soggy J.H. Satcher Field. The Pacers plated five runs by the fourth inning and cruised to the 6-1 win, snapping their four-game losing streak.
Bradley Key (6) got the Pacers on the board in the second with a one-out homer over the left center field wall. In the third inning,
Ashley Farr led off with a double to left center and
Demetrick Drumming just missed a home run, doubling off the wall down the left field line scoring
Farr to make it 2-0.
Tony Hanks (8) then stepped to the plate and crushed a two-run blast over the left field fence to make it 4-0 Pacers.
In the fourth inning,
Casey Calhoun got in on the action with his first career home run. The redshirt sophomore from Glasgow, KY led off the inning with a long ball to left field.
Mike Ross reached on an error and scored on a throwing error by the catcher in the eighth to set the final margin at 6-1.
Jerod Summer (2-0) tossed another strong outing for the Pacers. The redshirt sophomore allowed just four hits and one unearned run, walking two and striking out three in 5.0 innings of work in notching the win.
Chris Wilson came on in relief in the sixth and gave up two hits, walking two, and recording two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
Wes McColl pitched the eighth surrendering one hit and one walk, while
Key closed out the ninth by striking out the side.
Mike Cunningham and
Calhoun each went 2-for-4 for USC Aiken while
Hanks' two RBI led the team.
Jason Scott and
Brandon Green paced the Golden Bears with two hits each while
Cody Yerian's RBI single in the fifth scored the team's lone run.
On the mound,
Curtis Morgan lasted 4.1 innings allowing five earned runs on eight hits and one walk, striking out two in the loss.
Brad Nickell worked 2.2 innings of one-hit relief while
Joshua Stover no-hit the Pacers in the ninth but did allow one unearned run.
