AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 33 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory over Francis Marion Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 9-7 overall and 5-5 in league play.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles action. The dyad of
Hunter Lathrop and
Wojciech Adamek, playing at No. 3 notched an 8-3 victory. With the match tied at 1-1, the tandem of
Antonio Sabugueiro and
Tales Silva overcame a deficit to post a 9-8 (12-10) win at the No. 2 spot. The duo of
Mathias Degardin and
Julien Tan dropped a hard fought 8-6 contest.
Tan was the first to finish singles action. Playing at the No. 3 spot, he garnered a 6-4, 6-1 victory, giving the Pacers a 3-1 edge. Degardin lost a three-set thriller, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, but Lathrop pushed USC Aiken's advantage to 4-2 with a win at No. 4. He needed extra points, but tallied a 7-5, 7-5 win.
Sabugueiro clinched the match for Dahm's squad. Playing at the No. 2 slot, he won a three-set contest. After losing the opening frame 6-3, he bounced back for identical 7-5, 7-5 set wins.
Adamek lost a three-set match at No. 5 by scores of 6-2, 5-7, 4-6.
Alvaro Garcia Gil closed out the match with a win at No. 6. He posted a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 victory.
The Pacers return to action Friday, Apr. 14 when they host Limestone at 12 p.m.
