FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team saw its season end with a 5-3 loss to No. 36 North Georgia in the backdraw of the PBC Tournament.
The Pacers conclude their season with a 9-11 mark.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team fell behind by a 2-1 score after doubles competition. Third-seeded
Victoria Giannaccini and
Nadine Tusiama garnered a solid 8-2 victory over their counterparts. Second-seeded
Kayla Calvert and
Brigitta Mirak lost a hard-fought 8-6 contest while Marie Habiyaremye and
Olivera Veskovac dropped an 8-3 match at the top spot.
In singles action, USC Aiken knotted the score at 2-2 when Mirak overcame a 6-0 loss in the first set to garner a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Dahm's squad took a 3-2 lead when Habiyaremye tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 6 slot.
However, the Nighthawks registered three straight wins for the victory.Giannaccini won the first stet 6-0 at No. 5, but lost the next two by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Tusiama dropped her match by scores of 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1 while Calvert and her foe split the first two sets by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Calvert fell by a 6-2 count in the final frame.
It marked the final match in the collegiate career of Marie Aimee Habiyaremye,
Marta Quereda and
Nadine Tusiama.
