AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 33 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team posted a 5-4 victory over Georgia College Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 8-7 overall and 4-5 in league play.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles action. The dyad of
Antonio Sabugueiro and
Tales Silva earned a hard-fought 8-5 victory at No. 2. Third-seeded
Wojciech Adamek and
Hunter Lathrop combined for an 8-3 win, giving the team the early lead.
The Bobcats regained the lead at 3-2 after winning at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. However,
Mathias Degardin knotted the match at 3-3 with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 1.
Alvaro Garcia Gil's 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 gave USC Aiken a 4-3 lead. Silva put the match away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 slot.
Adamek nearly made it a 6-3 final, but came up just short at the No. 4 position. He lost a 5-7, 6-2, 6-7 match.
The Pacers return to action Sunday, Apr. 9 when they host Francis Marion at 12 p.m.
