MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team cruised past Montevallo Saturday afternoon by a 7-2 score in the regular-season finale.
The Pacers are now 9-9 on the season and 4-8 in league play.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 2-1 advantage through doubles action. Top-seeded Marie Habiyaremye and
Olivera Veskovac were not seriously tested in the 8-2 victory. The No. 3 tandem of
Victoria Giannaccini and
Nadine Tusiama won by an identical count. The dyad of
Kayla Calvert and
Brigitta Mirak narrowly lost, falling by an 8-5 score.
USC Aiken pushed its lead to 3-1 after Mirak closed out the No. 3 singles action. She won by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. After the Falcons pulled within one at 3-2, the Pacers rallied to claim the rest of the singles matches for the 7-2 win.
Tusiama nabbed the No. 2 victory by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Calvert notched the win at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Giannaccini garnered a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 slot while Habiyaremye concluded the win by registering a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The Pacers will now wait and see if they qualify for the PBC Tournament.
